Kwame Bakoji-Hume
Artist
Kwame Bakoji-Hume is an artist, drummer, and storyteller whose work bridges Ghanaian heritage with contemporary creative practice in the UK. Founder of African Activities and the Nightjar movement, Kwame’s creative vision centres on cultural identity, belonging, and environmental connection. He shapes Nightjar’s artistic direction with works rooted in ancestral wisdom—bringing communal memory, rhythm, and cultural joy into physical and narrative spaces across the New Forest and Gonja.

Adeola Sheehy-Adekele
Author
Adeola Sheehy-Adekale is a multidisciplinary writer and facilitator whose creative practice spans poetry, historical fiction, and community storytelling. Her debut collection, Climbing in the Dark, charts personal transformation and resonates with themes of identity and hope . Rooted in lived experience across her writing and facilitation, Adeola shapes Nightjar as a community-led movement—bringing heritage, healing and creative dialogue into learning spaces and landscapes.

Amy Hardingson
Author
 AJ (Amy) Hardingson is a multidisciplinary author, poet and storyteller. Their writing spans historical fiction, fairytale, fantasy and magical realism, often drawing on family history and lived experiences as a mixed-race, genderqueer, bisexual person growing up in Southampton and now parenting in the New Forest. Amy also works through themes of belonging and identity at community level, leading writing workshops, facilitating projects across the South of England, and contributing to social and environmental activism.

Berthram Hall
Sculptor
Berthram Hall is a Black British sculptor who has lived and worked in Hampshire for over 25 years. His practice explores nature, the human body, and migration, with current research focusing on how the African diaspora have used hair as a form of communication and cultural expression. Working with reclaimed hardwoods from local, European, and African sources, he creates fluid, organic forms that challenge historical narratives, spark new conversations, and reflect both his heritage and his commitment to sustainability.
Youth Board
Led by Nayah our Youth Board gives young people a seat at the table and a voice in decision-making. They guide Nightjar’s direction, test ideas, and hold us accountable to the communities we serve.
From shaping festival programmes to developing resources for schools and colleges, the Youth Board ensures Nightjar grows with the vision and creativity of the next generation.

Kwame Bakoji-Hume
Creative Director
Kwame is an artist, drummer and storyteller who founded African Activities to transform how African culture is represented in the UK. His vision for Nightjar draws on lived experience in Ghana and the UK, creating work that celebrates heritage, challenges stereotypes, and nurtures belonging across two homelands.

Lotte Bakoji-Hume
Operations Director
Lotte oversees African Activities’ operations and governance, ensuring the organisation runs sustainably while remaining rooted in community. She brings extensive experience in cultural education, funding and partnership-building, and is committed to embedding equity, safeguarding and participation at every level of Nightjar.

Adeola Sheehy-Adekale
Programme & Community Manager
Adeola is a writer, facilitator and community organiser. At African Activities she leads programme development and manages Nightjar’s community engagement, ensuring the project is shaped by those it serves. She is dedicated to amplifying unheard voices and building long-term pathways for artists and communities.

Nayah
Youth Lead
Nayah leads African Activities’ youth engagement and is the founding chair of the Nightjar Youth Board. She has already mobilised young people across the New Forest for the first time through Nightjar and is passionate about creating spaces where young people’s voices drive cultural change.

Kulcha is a cultural leader, performer and advocate for inclusive arts. As Chair of the Advisory Board, he supports African Activities in championing Black cultural heritage and guiding Nightjar’s community-led approach.

Andrew is an accountant who brings financial expertise and oversight to the board. He supports African Activities in maintaining transparency and good governance while enabling ambitious growth.

Non-Exec Director
Sadat offers strategic insight and community connections, helping African Activities and Nightjar remain responsive to the needs of Black and African communities in the UK.

Gabriel Nsiah Boakye
Non-Exec Director
Gabriel brings lived experience and leadership from within Ghanaian and African diaspora communities. He supports African Activities in building authentic cultural exchange and long-term sustainability.

Youth Board
As youth representative on the board, Edmund ensures young voices are embedded in African Activities’ governance and that we embody youth led change. Recently featured on 1Xtra he is a talented musical producer.
