Camp Bestival – We Are Family

by africanactivities | Aug 4, 2021 | Uncategorized | 0 comments

camp bestival we are family

‘We knew Camp Bestival was likely to feel emotional, it is after all a long time since we have gathered with joy in numbers. I also knew I would be be nervous – we have spent months planning, mitigating and protecting for ourselves and others. At an event such as this the truth is personal responsibility only goes so far. Your safety is in the hands of others.  We really need not have worried – the Covid protection and testing was unobtrusive, but very present and our fellow campers were outstanding.  The proof held in the lateral flow tests we did when we got home!

It was our second year at Camp Bestival and just how quickly we had become absorbed into the family came as a wonderful surprise.  From the drummers who remembered beats from last year to little children who had been sleeping with Adinkra prints underneath their pillows!

It is true that we nearly blew away on the Thursday night, and that our daughters tent would have done, but luckily she was saved by the kindness of unknown angels bearing tent pegs and mallets in the middle of a stormy night. Other than that the weather was kind and we were able to deliver outside.

It felt wonderful to be told that people’s best Bestival memories included us – let’s hope we can all do it again soon!
